Having a fitblr can be a rewarding experience and can provide you with loads of motivation to help you reach your goals, but not everything on tumblr is positive. I’ve compiled a few tips for getting the most out of your tumblr experience.
-> Remember that your mental health is just as important as your physical health and act accordingly. There are lots of pro-ED blogs out there, and lots of recovery blogs that talk a lot about EDs. If you feel like you could be triggered, stay away from them completely.
-> Make your fitblr a main blog, rather than a side blog on an existing account. It may seem like a pain in the ass if you’ve already created your blog, but in my opinion it is worth it. Download a new browser (I recommend a chrome-based browser for reasons I’ll discuss in the next section) and you can log in via that. That way, your entire dashboard will be full of fitblrs, and you can go there whenever you need a hefty dose of motivation.
-> If you are using a chrome-based browser, utilise tumblr extensions. Missing E will make your blogging experience much easier (with one-click-reblog, etc), and Tumblr Saviour is a really useful tool to stop you from seeing things you don’t want to see. You can choose to hide all posts that are tagged with certain things, for example ‘Trigger Warning’, ‘ED’, ‘Thinspo’, etc.
-> Make sure that you tag any of your posts that could be triggering so that people can hide them if they want to. Your blog is your own personal outlet so you can feel free to post whatever you want, but just make sure that you’re not accidentally inflicting harmful posts upon other people.
-> Follow loads of blogs. The more stuff on your dash, the better! Plus, a lot of people will follow back, and then you’ll start to build a community of people that you support and that support you. Do a quick check of people’s blogs before you follow them, just to make sure that they post the sort of things that you want on your dash. If you’re easily triggered and it looks like they post triggering material, just stay away. You have no obligation to follow anybody. (Check out the notes in this post or the Fitblr Directory for hundreds of blogs to follow)
-> Interact with people - it will make their day! If you send people encouraging messages and comment on people’s posts, you’ll not only make them happy, but you’ll also be more likely to make some friends along the way. If you talk to people, people will be more likely to talk to you, and a support network can be very important for motivation. Aim to interact with people every sigle time you come online. Even if you just leave a couple of random people a ‘you’re beautiful’ message you’ll be creating a lot of happiness (and you can always do it on anon if you’re shy).
Those are my tips, but I’m sure you guys have loads more! Please reblog and add your own if you have any other ideas.
